It may not be a question, but It is one of the most often things I hear when talking with a new inquiry. The fact that you are on my website is a very good place to start! There are four main factors I believe come into play when hiring a senior photographer- the four P's!
schedule a call!
It depends! Whether a season or activity is important to you, can determine when the best time to have your senior session. If you are looking for a lake scene with a gorgeous sunset, I recommend summer vs. late fall. That being said, I have had people brave the cold waters of a lake in October. Anything to get the shot, right?? If you want certain colors, like the rich oranges and reds of fall or the bright yellows and greens of spring, book a session that lands during that time. Remember August is HOT and humid. June has less bugs. Winter is extraordinarily beautiful. So really, when the session takes place is your call, but I do recommend booking your senior pictures in early spring because spots are limited and we tend to book out the senior season by summer. Also keep in mind we shoot during the week- no weekends- so if missing school is a big deal, make sure to book a summer session.
I have taken extensive training for retouching and hand edit each image individually to achieve the best result. I don't use a preset on an entire gallery and pay special attention to achieving accurate skin tones. Each senior photo session is treated as unique, with color toning to match the mood of the scene. Skin will still look like real skin. No fake plastic looking skin here!
Do you have a budget in mind? Do you know what you get at each price point and are the pricing and packages made clear to you? Do you want a no-pressure meeting after your session to view your photos and get help choosing what to order or do you want digitals online to go through yourself?
How do you see yourself investing in senior pictures for this once-in-a-lifetime experience?
Do you feel comfortable with this person? Will they help you feel at ease at the session, as well as inspire you? Are they assertive enough to be able to guide you into the poses that work best for your body type? Do they listen to your concerns and your desires when it comes to how you envison your senior pictures? Do they seem like they have fun and enjoy their job? A pre-session consultation is a great way to find out if you and your photographer are a good fit!
Does the senior photographer's portfolio inspire you? Do they utilize a variety of locations, poses, lighting and moods or do you see the same thing shown over and over? Do you see yourself/child represented in their work? Do they have experience working with many different ethnicities and can accurately capture a spectrum of skin tones without blowing them out?
Do they offer a full range of products, from print to digital? Is having an amazing fine art album designed from images of session important, especially if you don't want to be the one having to design it? Do you want someone to guide you throughout the ordering process, help you choose your favorite images and show you the best way to experience those images in print?
Session fees are for the photographer's time and talent and do not include images, in print or digital. The images, whether print or digital, will be purchased separately at the proofing session. Minimum purchase requirements vary by session type and are in addition to session fees.
